To control tampering of petrol pump dispensers at some depots across the states, some outlets in Mumbai, especially those of Indian Oil, have begun wooing citizens to check the 'quality and quantity' of petrol. They are also gifting freebies to customers who come forward for the fuel checks.
"It is an unique initiative to encourage customers to check actual delivery and accuracy by physically ascertaining it,"
The quality and quantity of fuel can be ascertained by a 'filter-paper test' and pouring the liquid in a five-litre can and then checking the reading on the fuel dispensing machine. In many cases its found petrol pumps were vending 200 ml less for every five litres of fuel sold, cheating customers regularly so this initiative i a welcome move.
