What is JioSpaceFiber?

Reliance Jio unveiled JioSpaceFiber, a satellite-based internet service, during the Indian Mobile Congress. JioSpaceFiber employs communication satellites to give high-speed internet access, as opposed to traditional broadband, which uses cables or fiber. Compared to Jio AirFiber and Jio Fibre, JioSpaceFiber is not the same.

How JioSpaceFiber works?

You have to install the satellite dish to your home. Data from satellites orbiting the Earth is sent and received via a satellite dish placed close to your house. This technology makes it possible to access the internet in places like rural areas where standard cable or fiber connections might not be available. It’s important to keep in mind, though, that because satellite internet requires data to travel to and from space, there may be a tiny increase in latency. In conventional broadband fiber configurations, such as Jio Fiber, routers, cables, and other equipment must be put up. JioAirFiber is a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) system that consists of an outside unit installed on customers’ rooftops, patios, or outside their homes. It operates primarily wirelessly. In addition to free home equipment like routers and 4K Smart Set-Top Boxes, it also includes indoor WiFi service.

Additionally, Jio states that this service would enhance the availability and scope of Jio True5G in the most remote areas of the nation by supporting “additional capacity for mobile backhaul.” Jio needed permission from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to begin deploying broadband from space technology in order to launch the service. The same approval was granted to them in September of 2022.

Jio Space Fiber Availability

In several parts of India, like Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chattisgarh, Nabrangpur in Odisha, and ONGC in Jorhat, Assam, JioSpaceFiber has already begun to roll out. The service is being provided by the corporation in collaboration with SES, a company based in Luxembourg. The goal of this new endeavor is to upend India’s current state of internet connectivity.

Jio Space Fiber vs Starlink Full comparison :

Jio Space Fiber vs Starlink satellites :- Starlink employs low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, whereas JioSpace Fiber uses medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites. 2,000 to 12,000 kilometers above Earth is where MEO spacecraft are situated, while 160 to 2,000 kilometers above Earth is where LEO satellites are situated.

Jio Space Fiber vs Starlink Latency – The latency, speed, and coverage of MEO satellites are all balanced. They cover a larger area than LEO satellites, although not as widely as they do due to their higher latency. Starlink’s LEO satellites provide a limited service area but the fastest speeds and least latency. JioSpace Fiber is anticipated to have more speed and coverage, however Starlink has a minor latency edge overall.

Jio Space Fiber vs Starlink speed :- Starlink provides up to 1 Gbps of speed, while JioSpace Fiber is anticipated to provide up to 100 Mbps. It’s crucial to remember that these are merely theoretical speeds. A multitude of factors, including geography, weather, and the quantity of users on the network, might affect actual speeds.

Jio Space Fiber vs Starlink Price :- JioSpace Fiber costs have not yet been made public. Jio has promised to maintain “highly affordable” Jio SpaceFiber plans, nevertheless. Regarding Starlink, the monthly plans begin at $120, and the estimated cost to set up the dish is $599.
